Odo of Deuil

Odo of Deuil
Latin historian of the Second Crusade (q.v.), who was secretary and chaplain to Louis VIII of France (q.v.), a leader of the Second Crusade (q.v.). His position gave him access to the inner leadership circle of of the Crusade. The religious hostility toward Byzantium (q.v.) that he reports fully justified the fear with which Manuel I Komnenos (q.v.) viewed the approach of the French army. Odo's account is rich in descriptive details about the city of Constantinople (q.v.) and the court of Manuel I.
